Pathology is the study of the origin, nature, and course of diseases.

This slide is a smear of Balantidium Coli in its trophozoite form. This pathogen is the cause of the disease balantidiasis. Balantidium Coli is ingested in its cyst phase, before developing into trophozoites, which then colonize the large intestine.
